Batik
Batik is an ancient fabric art that originated from Indonesia.
During the batik process, hot wax is drawn using a tjanting or painted onto light coloured natural fabric, which is then dyed and allowed to dry. Other areas are then waxed and dyed, gradually building up a design. Eventually the batik wax is removed, revealing various coloured patterns and designs. Cracks in the batik wax give patterns the 'crackled' look which is unique to batik .
